This evening myself and Margaret, another of the Bristol Spirit Lodge circle members, attended a Physical séance with Warren Caylor at the Freespirit Awareness Centre in Bristol. Due to re-location, this was the first time Warren had held a séance on these premises.

Upon arrival we met within an ante-room, where bags, coats and other personal effects were set aside. At this point one of the Warren’s circle members explained to us that the séance was of an experimental nature and that no particular outcome could be guaranteed. We were also warned of the possible content of the séance and that anyone who wasn’t happy was free to leave. We were then searched as we entered the séance room and afterwards scanned with a standard security device, again for safety reasons. We were then shown our seats. Warren himself was then searched by two of the sitters.

Within the room chairs had been placed around the walls. There were blackout sheets fitted to all windows and the doors likewise. At one end of the room a ‘cabinet’ was placed. This was a simple frame with sheeting around it. A standard sun lounger chair was placed inside. Two people inspected this construction both inside and out. Two more people checked the cable ties and knotted cords that secured Warren into the chair.

To one side of the cabinet were placed a standard CD player, a red light, and a white light (both inside a simple box) and a tape recorder with one song on it. All of these items were open to scrutiny before the séance began and sitters were told to ask to take the tape or CD home afterwards should they wish to check these items for themselves. Other objects placed on the floor within the Circle were a plaque (a small wooden tile coated on one side with luminous paint), one basic séance trumpets, a few whistles, a tambourine and a drum. Again, all these things were offered for public scrutiny both before and after the séance.

I was seated three seats away from the cabinet and Margaret was seated at the opposite end of the room. Between us therefore we were able to see the whole of the room. We are both experienced sitters and were both alert witnesses. I run my own Circles and am known to be critical of evidential phenomena. I only believe what I see when it is presented in undeniable form. Margaret is also an experienced sitter and trustworthy witness.

When everyone was seated the customary prayer was spoken. We were asked to sit in silence for the duration of two songs, to allow the medium to relax into trance state. The lighting was then extinguished and we sat in silence. Within moments however, the rule of ‘silence’ was broken by the sounds emanating from the cabinet, and before the end of the second song Rachel’s familiar chuckle and “Hello!” of welcome were heard. Further fun followed, with spirit child Tom coming forward to play with the harmonica, trumpet, drums and slide whistle. The trumpet tapped the knees of myself and those near to me, as well as of others on the opposite side of the room.

Yellow Feather came next, speaking in his usual fashion about the value of the work, and the joining of the two worlds. Rachel then returned for a short time, chatting to many of the sitters by name. She then arranged for two sitters to approach the cabinet, to witness clearly that the chair was empty! This was seen by myself to be the case as the white light was dimply lit in order for further confirmation of the fact.

A few minutes later, Rachel arranged for Warren to be brought out of trance state, so as to speak to sitters, whilst she herself was also speaking.

The energy within the room was high, with everyone singing and laughing along with the spirit visitors. Another spirit person came through, introducing himself as Bob Marley, much to the delight of many fans. Then ‘the team’ were back, and Yellow Feather proceeded to display his ectoplasmic hand (resting upon the plaque) to everyone in the room, inviting several different people to touch his hand. This was described as a solid hand, lifelike to the touch. During this demonstration the plaque moved at high speed from one end of the room to the other so as to best display this phenomena.

The next demonstration was full materialisation! Yellow Feather materialised less that 6ft away from myself, standing firm and solid (although slightly transparent) within white light conditions, at his request. It was noted by Margaret and myself, as well as others, that the figure itself appeared dressed in white with trousers having the usual wide-legs and wide sleeves. Warren was dressed in dark tracksuit trousers that had a white stripe down the sides, and a grey sweatshirt. Yellow Feather walked to a mid-way point across the room, talking to sitters all the time, before leaving.

Albert was the next to join in the fun. Joking as usual, he again spoke to several sitters by name. Albert then took on materialised form and walked almost the full length of the room. He was clearly seen and heard by everyone present. He too appeared as a white figure, of slightly shorter stature than Yellow Feather.

Finally Rachel returned to bid us farewell and the séance came to an end.

When the lights were switched on it was seen that ropes had been tied around the chair and across the cabinet. The cable ties were witnessed to be in place around Warren’s wrists and were cut to enable Warren’s release.

The evening was great fun and enjoyed by believers and sceptics alike. The content gave much food for thought and I highly recommended it to anyone who is of open mind.

Note: A lady sitting within the seance mentioned herself as having the ability of clairsentience. She spoke with scepticism, due to being unable to sense the presence of spirit within the seance. I have no idea why this was, but imagine that perhaps as spirit were so clearly seen to be within our world, that they were displaying phenomena upon an unfamiliar vibration. This lady may not have then felt their energies in a way familiarly recognised by herself. I don't know, and would like to hear from anyone who has learned more about this possibility. I find the subject fascinating and within our home circle intend to learn a lot more.
